What if you have multiple interests? What can you do?
Mikaiel Ishaque
22:38
How do I approach someone for advice to entering a company they work at.
Isal Kamara
24:57
Do you mind giving an example of a specific example of a personal interest? Personally I’m really into music but I feel like it’s too broad.
Matthew Thibault
26:26
Hi Mikaiel, a great starting point to talking to people at a company is first connecting with them. Often times that happens on LinkedIn or in person. After that setting up a 1x1 or getting coffee to ask about what they do is where a lot of info is shared in my experience.
Ali Colak
27:20

Does the outfit you wear in your picture affect your chances of making meaningful connections on LinkedIn?
Aika Aldayarova
32:45
Which is better for a banner — a scenic view or design image with contact info?
Aika Aldayarova
34:04
What about profile pictures that are professional but black and white?
Matthew Thibault
37:38
A good rule in terms of profile photo style is what Profession you are in. In art and creative careers I think you have more flexibility to reflect your creativity in your profile pic (Black & White/Unique shots/Fun Ideas), if you want to do Finance you might want to skew a little bit more traditional (Suit & Tie/Business Professional) to convey what it might be like to work with you.
Matthew Thibault
39:05
Look at profile photos of people who have the job that you aspire to. Always a good rule of thumb to follow that if that's what you are studying/interning/working in! :)
Aika Aldayarova
39:35
Perfect, thanks so much!
Isal Kamara
39:51
Is it inappropriate to keep your personal social media accounts private?
Han Min Thein
40:27
Should the posts that you have on your feed are they suppose to be original content or could you share other people's post if they find interesting to you?
Isal Kamara
40:39
My Instagram account is private due to privacy and security reasons.
Matthew Thibault
42:59
That is totally fine, LinkedIn should reflect your personality and if you want to keep things private please do so. I have worked with many co-workers in the past who are very purposeful/thoughtful about only sharing work/general topics on LinkedIn with the rest private.
Isal Kamara
43:26
Thank you!
Matthew Thibault
45:15
The goal at the end of the day isn't to share everything but to think of what can I share that shows my personality but that I am comfortable sharing. (Cooking, Reading Books, Marvel, Star Wars, NBA teams haha) Helping us connect and make a digital profile feel like a real person.
Isal Kamara

To connect with someone you don’t know & plan the coffee chat / move the interaction forward, how would you go about it to approach it with the most success? I’ve been trying to connect with Spotify people for Product management roles but so far no luck
Mikaiel Ishaque
50:12
I want to message this person on linkdin because they work at a company that I want to work at. I also went to an online event that she hosted. How would I go about messaging her without making it sound like I'm begging for a job?
Isal Kamara
51:16
You can send her a nice little note to start
Matthew Thibault
52:28
Reaching out cold is tough Ali and yes Mikaiel the message has to feel genuine, the simplest place to start is looking for mutual connections (You can see on LinkedIn) or friends/mentors/family you can reach out through to introduce you. If you don't have that then try a mutual topic area. Liking some of their posts about being a PM and sharing maybe some things you have found as you have tried to learn PM skills.
Isal Kamara
52:37
Then afterwards you can express interest of the job that you want by explaining how your qualifications will help you gain success in the job
Isal Kamara
52:56
Hope that helps!
Mikaiel Ishaque
54:26
Thank you guys I'll try to see what we have in common. And I feel I have the right skills for this company. I just want to build a connection within the company to maybe get some direction
Isal Kamara
54:48
Good luck!
Anna Valadao Defaria
55:13
If I am reaching out to a new connection from an event I attended that was hosted by the person, I usually start by thanking them for being/hosting the event and sharing their thoughts. Mention something that they mentioned that was of interest to you and ask if they would be willing to set up some time to talk more about the company and their experience there.
Mikaiel Ishaque
55:51
Yeah I was thinking about going that route
Matthew Thibault
56:01
Great advice Anna!
Isal Kamara
57:15
Can all of these skills be applied to your private social media accounts?
Mikaiel Ishaque
57:43
Should I make a professional Instagram account ?
Ali Colak
58:36
Thank you Matthew! Cold always has felt the least effective to me but I’m stuck on trying to figure out how to position myself. I’m definitely gonna try engaging with their posts & commenting.

Most of the time, their presence at the event is a good indicator that they would be open to connecting you and talking about their experience at the company. In the meeting you can ask them about the culture and skills they have found important for their job. A question I have found to be super helpful is asking if there is a colleague that they think I should talk to and if they would be comfortable doing that. The last time I asked this question, I was able to set up 3 more meetings with different professionals at the company!
Isal Kamara
58:53
Very true!
Matthew Thibault
59:05
Yes Isal, taking a focused approach really helps with any social media account since there is so much noise out there.
